Platinum, Onyx and Diamond Cross
Platinum and Onyx Cross adorned with a Platinum Skull with Diamond Set Eyes by HR Jewellery Designs
This is one of my more thought provoking and certainly more unique commissions.
My client got in touch with a definite idea of what he wanted. Beautiful large cross inlaid with onyx with a friendly skull in the centre with diamonds for eyes.

This commission was something I felt sure could be done, I just didn’t know how yet!
Once I had worked out how to make my clients idea into reality I was able to work out a quote.
The decision was reached for the cross to be made in platinum for my clients partner. Using platinum would give a lovely weight to the cross and would never tarnish.
A sketch to scale, as you can see it is pretty big!
Once the outline cross was made in platinum sheet pieces of onyx were bespoke cut to fit into the space within the cross
Hand carving the skull in wax to get it cast in platinum. This way there is less metal waste so less cost to my client
A real statement piece!
The highly polished finish on both the platinum and the onyx make this cross extremely luxurious
The diamonds were chosen to suit the size of the skull so they would be a feature. A post was soldered onto the back of the skull, placed through the onyx, then laser soldered through onto the back of the cross. Laser solder was used so the heat didn't crack the onyx
The cross was finished off with a beautiful long length of black leather cord which was hand knotted so it could be tightened once worn.
