After a few personal meetings, we knew she would create something stunning, yet elegant, for our special day. For a personal touch we wanted our fingerprints engraved on our wedding bands, and the results left everyone at the wedding complimenting on the beautiful designs. Like most women, I inherited a collection of rings and bits from various relatives which I didn’t like, didn’t fit or were past their best. And they sat at the bottom of my jewellery box for years and years. Unloved and unwanted for anything but sentimental reasons. Until I came across a craft jeweler who talked to me about remodeling my bits into something I would love and value. Whilst it became clear that he wasn’t the right person for my work, the idea stuck and so I started to look for someone who could read my mind and remake the rings into an heirloom piece which I would love and could pass on to my children.

After much trawling of the internet, I finally found Holly Richardson’s details. The designs she was showing, at that time, were very modern and I wasn’t quite sure they were for me. But I emailed her and she rang me a couple of days later. Yes, she did remodeling work and yes, she designed a wide range of different styles and it would be entirely up to me to decide exactly what I wanted. The trouble was, I didn’t know what I wanted at all.

We met with Holly and immediately I knew she would, indeed, read my mind and that what we would come up with together would be the perfect thing – even if I wasn’t sure, at that point, what that perfect thing would be. I thought I might like a fabulous ring; Holly quickly knew this wouldn’t actually work and we settled on a pendant and earrings in an Art Nouveau style. The rings were of sentimental value to me so Holly explained that each piece would have some of the original gold in them and that we would use as many of the stones as we could. One of the stones was a sapphire which are probably my least favourite stones so I was interested to see how this would be incorporated.

I waited for the designs to arrive by email and when they did was totally enchanted. They were absolutely wonderful and I could have chosen any of them. So much so that I was stuck. Another conversation with Holly – she didn’t want me to have anything that wasn’t absolutely right and the decision was made to come up with some additional designs incorporating what I loved and changing things I wasn’t quite sure about. The second set of designs arrived and the right one jumped off the page at me.

The rings went off to be melted down and remade. Holly was buying two new rubies to match the existing ones and was cleaning up the other stones. She sent some photos of the process of the remake. It was fascinating to see how the gold was melted down. She also checked the hallmarks of a couple of the rings and told me how old they were and were they came from.

Finally collection day arrived. The pendant and earrings were better than I could possibly have expected. Actually, they are completely stunning and the loveliest things to own and wear. I was and still am completely thrilled with these wonderful one off pieces- they are absolutely unique. And she even managed to set the sapphire so that I love that too!

Holly is a joy to work with. We trusted her implicitly from the first time we met her – she is a complete perfectionist and so talented, we knew we were in the best of hands. She very quickly got onto my wavelength and I knew she understood exactly what I was looking for and also what would suit me, my lifestyle and our budget. I would, without any hesitation completely recommend Holly and her work. She’s a lovely person with a real gift for design and a passion for beautiful jewellery. Really, you could ask for more could you?

I hope you got my message. The cross is absolutely beautiful - thank you so much. I definitely would have chosen this design for myself, although I have to say that when David showed me the other ones, they were all lovely. The hammered gold effect is just perfect!

It's such a special piece and I had absolutely no idea David was arranging it - he gave it to me today, although my Authorisation isn't until 8th. You are very, very clever and I sing your praises whenever I can. And David said you made this one yourself which makes it even more special. So thank you very much again for such a lovely, special piece of jewellery.
